Sanbao International Ceramic Valley

A wooded valley of studios, wood kilns, and tea houses — where the mist and the clay come from.

Sanbao is the porcelain heart behind the city: a narrow valley of paddies and workshops where some of the world’s best ceramic artists keep studios among the tea bushes. Wood kilns fire here on weekends; the smoke reads as weather.

Walk the valley road past the Sanbao Ceramic Art Museum’s rammed-earth walls, call ahead at private studios, and end with tea where the kaolin was first mined. Most gallery artists here will host a visit if you write first.

Our custom itineraries include hands-on sessions in Sanbao studios — see Custom Travel.
