Old factory kilns reborn as studios, markets, and night life — the beating heart of the Jingdrifter scene.
Taoxichuan (“creek flowing toward porcelain”) occupies the campus of the former Universal Porcelain Factory. Its preserved ring kilns and chimneys now frame design studios, glass galleries, and a weekend market where two hundred young potters sell direct.
Come at dusk on a Friday: the market lights come on, the wood-fired pizza of the kiln courtyard meets the smell of fresh bisque, and somewhere a band is tuning beside a 1960s chimney. It is the friendliest possible introduction to contemporary Jingdezhen.
The October “Spring Festival of Porcelain” fills the avenue with collectors; in ordinary weeks, you can commission a custom tea set over coffee and pick it up fired before you fly home.
